Terms
Terms of use
Last updated: 28 June 2026
The short version: the templates are free to use for your own business. They are general help, not tax advice, and you stay responsible for your own figures and tax. We provide them as they are, and because they are free we cannot take on any liability for how they work out for you.
These terms cover your use of OpenSheets at opensheets.co.uk and the templates you download from it. OpenSheets is run by Aligned Logic Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17081706), registered office 167-169 Great Portland Street, 5th Floor, London, W1W 5PF. In these terms, "we", "our" and "us" mean Aligned Logic Ltd.
By downloading or using a template, you accept these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the templates.
What OpenSheets is
OpenSheets is a free library of UK business and bookkeeping templates, in Excel and Google Sheets, for sole traders, landlords and small businesses. The templates are tools to help you organise your own documents and records. They are not a service we run on your behalf, and they are not professional advice.
It is free, so there are no fees or refunds
Every template here is free. There is no charge, no subscription and no account. Because you never pay anything, there are no fees, no invoices and nothing to refund. If we ever offer a paid product in future, it will have its own separate terms.
No tax or accounting advice
The templates and any guidance around them are general information to help you keep your own records. They are not tax, accounting, legal or financial advice, and using them does not create a professional relationship between us. The templates do not work out your tax position or tell you what you owe. Anything we say about Making Tax Digital is general guidance, and you should check your own circumstances against gov.uk or with an accountant. Where you need advice for your situation, please get it from a qualified professional.
You stay responsible for your own figures
You are responsible for:
- the accuracy of anything you type into a template
- checking that a template suits your circumstances before you rely on it
- checking your own figures and totals before you submit anything to HMRC or share it with anyone
- keeping the records the law requires you to keep
We do not see, check or verify anything you put into a template.
How you may use the templates
You are welcome to download the templates and use, edit and adapt them for your own use, including for your own business and commercial work. Where a template carries a gentle Aligned or OpenSheets credit, we would be glad if you left it in place, though you do not have to.
Please do not:
- resell the templates or pass them off as your own product
- republish or redistribute the library as a competing collection
- scrape the site in bulk or rebuild it elsewhere
Provided as is, with no warranties
We have tried hard to make these templates UK-correct and genuinely useful, and we keep them under review. Even so, the templates and the site are provided "as is" and "as available". We do not promise that they are accurate, complete, free of errors, up to date with current law or HMRC rules, or fit for your particular purpose. Tax and business rules change, so a template that is right today may not stay right. Always check a template still fits before you rely on it.
The site may change or go offline
This is a free site. We may update, change, withdraw or take down any template or the whole site at any time, without notice. We do not guarantee that any particular template stays available.
Our liability to you
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage that arises from using, or not being able to use, the templates or the site. That includes, for example:
- tax penalties, interest or assessments
- incorrect figures, calculations or submissions
- lost income, profit, business, data or goodwill
- any indirect or consequential loss
Because OpenSheets is provided free of charge, our total liability to you in connection with the templates and the site is limited to £0.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded under the law. None of this affects your statutory rights as a consumer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which always apply.
Your responsibility to us
You agree to use the templates and the site lawfully and within these terms. If someone brings a claim against us because of how you have used the templates or the site, or because you have broken these terms or the law, you agree to cover the reasonable costs and losses that result.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the site or templates for anything unlawful
- try to break, probe or get around the site's security
- interfere with how the site works for other people
- use automated tools to scrape or harvest the site at scale
Other services we link to
The Google Sheets copies open on Google's platform and are subject to Google's own terms. We also link to sites such as gov.uk and aligned.tax. We are not responsible for third-party sites or services, or for any outage or error on their side.
About Aligned
OpenSheets is run by the team behind Aligned, free Making Tax Digital bridging software. A mention of Aligned on a template or page is a friendly pointer, not a requirement. If you choose to use Aligned, that is covered by its own separate terms.
Who owns what
The templates, the OpenSheets name and branding, and the content on the site belong to Aligned Logic Ltd or its licensors, except for the data you enter into a template, which stays yours. The permission set out under "how you may use the templates" is all the licence you get, and nothing else here transfers any of our rights to you.
Things outside our control
We are not responsible for failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control, such as outages of third-party systems or government services, cyber-attacks, or changes in law.
General
If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later. These terms, with our privacy notice, are the whole agreement between us about your use of OpenSheets. They are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, except that as a consumer you may also have the right to bring a claim in your local courts. A person who is not a party to these terms has no right to enforce them under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows when they last changed. If you keep using the site after a change, that counts as accepting the updated terms.
